The Brains Behind the Group

It still surprises me everyday when I think to myself, oh dear lord these kids are my age. I call them "these kids"(10-28-14 fieldnotes) because they act middle schoolers and talk like middle schoolers, and we all know how bad and strange some of those conversations can get, I don't dare talk to them out of fear of being sucked into a conversation I have not interest in talk about. These kids however are in high school and from the information I can gather they go to either Bishop Manogue High School or Galena High School. They do see me even in my best effort to be unseen, they have discovered that I go to Wooster High School and that I take an IB class and also take JROTC, which later lead to endless remarks about how I am both a nerd and a nark.

To me some of these kids are the exemplification of what is wrong with the public school system today. However, one of the kids in the group, who I believe is their charismatic leader of sorts, is actually rather intelligent. I have given him the nickname of "brains".

Serenity at Last

This week when I went to the park I noticed one major difference from the other weeks I have visited the park, the Scooter Squad was not there. The park overall felt different, it felt more repose than it normally did. The only things there were the usual dogs and the occasional little kid that would run after one of those dogs till the child got tired and would go to his or her mom and want to go home. Being able to move freely and not dodge kids on skateboards was a extraordinary feeling, in a cliche way, the sun shined brighter this week.

A question I asked myself most of this week was, why was the Scooter Squad not there? The conclusion I drew up was that maybe they got grounded or something along the lines of that.
